COMANAGEMENT SERVICES

Our office offers co-management services for several surgical procedures.
Co-management is when Dr. Seymour and the surgeon coordinate care to make surgical care convenient to patients. Dr. Seymour will do the pre-surgical evaluation to ensure that you are a candidate for surgery, and discuss the procedure and projected outcomes and risks.
Our office staff will co-ordinate with the surgeon’s office to schedule an evaluation with the surgeon. After surgery, the surgeon will turn over postoperative care to Dr. Seymour. Depending on the type of surgery, post operative evaluations will be scheduled with Dr. Seymour. Our office offers surgical consultations on site.
Dr. Trevorrow, an Indiana ophthalmologist and Ebensburg native, provides surgical consultations once or twice a month at Dr. Seymour’s office. Usually, these evaluations are in Thursdays when Dr. Seymour is out of the office. Dr. Trevorrow does surgeries at two locations for patient convenience; Indiana Hospital and Miners Hospital in Hastings. His friendly staff will walk you through the steps of surgery and return you to our care after surgery. Dr. Trevorrow has an excellent surgical reputation and we are proud to be affiliated with him.
Listed below are procedures for which we offer co-management services.

I. Cataract Surgery - Dr. Seymour and the patient will decide when a cataract is mature enough to consider surgery. When vision cannot be corrected with spectacle lenses to an acceptable functional level, cataract surgery will be recommended. Dr. Seymour will also rule out other causes for vision loss, such as macular degeneration or glaucoma. An evaluation with Dr. Trevorrow or another surgeon will be scheduled by our office and the cataract extraction procedure will be reviewed. The post operative period for cataract extraction is 90 days. The surgeons normally return you to our care 1 - 2 weeks after surgery. Dr. Seymour will monitor you to rule our any complications from the surgery and eyeglasses are normally prescribed 1 month after surgery. A final dilated retinal exam will be performed towards the end of the post-operative period to rule out retinal holes, tears, or detachments.

II. YAG Capsulotomy - After cataract surgery, a film can form over the implant. This can decrease visual acuity and can be removed with a laser. This is a quick, in-office procedure done by the cataract surgeon. This procedure has very few side effects although, at times, the IOP (intra ocular pressure) can rise and internal inflammation can occur. Dr. Seymour will monitor you and treat these complications if they occur.

III. Refractive Surgery - There are several surgical procedures to correct refractive error. Dr. Seymour can review the procedures available to you and determine if you are a candidate. Contact lens wear must be discontinued for 4 - 6 weeks before a pre-operative refractive surgery evaluation. The evaluation includes evaluation of the cornea for abnormalities, dryness, and thickness measurements. The retina is evaluated for holes, tears, and degenerations. Your prescription will be measured under different circumstances to come up with a true refraction. Dr. Seymour will then review the different procedures and, if you are a candidate, surgery will be scheduled. After surgery, Dr. Seymour will continue post-operative evaluations for complications. This includes check-ups 1 day, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after surgery. Post-operative fees include all of these visits.
