WHAT IS IT? The Gold Standard of Care for identifying retinal and glaucoma disease characteristics and for monitoring disease progression.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The Zeiss Stratus OCT Retinal Imager allows
Dr. Seymour to visualize and analyze retinal disorders and detect glaucoma at their earliest stages,
before vision damage occurs. Here's how:
The retina is the innermost lining of the inside of your
eye. It is composed of several individual layers and
functions like the film in a camera. The lens of your
eye focuses images on the retina, much like the lens of
a camera focuses images on film. The optic nerve
transmits the images to the brain, enabling you to see.
Like other organs in your body, the retina is subject to
changes that can lead to visual impairment, depending
on what area of the retina is affected .
Retinal disease, such as diabetic retinopathy, age related
macular degeneration and glaucoma are prevalent
causes of blindness. The real danger lies in how most
eye diseases progress very slowly and symptoms do not
appear until it is too late for any treatment to be effective.
Early detection of these diseases is therefore crucial. The Zeiss Stratus OCT allows Dr. Seymour to closely monitor and address structural changes in the retina before your vision is affected.
